This is another example of a Fashionisto who’s outfit I would wear without hesitation. Mainly because he has successfully combined all of my go-to items: loafers, sweaters, jeans and leopard print. His effortless combination of all four items is enviable and inspiring.
What I love about this outfit is how it is at once casual and polished. Although I wouldn’t necessarily recommend wearing light-wash denim and a leopard print button-up to an interview, his loafers and conservative sweater definitely make this outfit appropriate for a meeting with a professor or for a casual day at the internship. And of course, it is perfect for strolling with friends on a beautiful afternoon, which is what this Fashionisto was doing when I spotted him.
Although I own a lot of leopard print (faux fur coats, cardigans, slips, flats, blankets, slippers and more), I do not own a button-up in the print. The classically conservative style shirt is a great way to ease into the print if you are hesitant about incorporating it in your wardrobe. Furthermore, wearing it underneath a solid color sweater makes the print less in your face, but still visible. If you want to throw a sweater or even a blazer on top of your button-up, primary colors (red, yellow and blue) are the most complementary for leopard print.
This Fashionisto’s jean and loafer combination is my favorite part of his outfit because it is straight out of any of Michael Jackson’s ‘90s music videos. I always admired the simplicity of MJ’s jeans, loafers and white V-neck combination and regularly emulate the look. This Fashionisto found a way to make the classic look a little more youthful and eye-catching by adding color with his shirt, sweater and green backpack, while still maintaining the put together feel of Michael Jackson’s unofficial uniform.
If you still are adamant about not incorporating leopard print into your wardrobe, swap the printed button-up for a solid colored one and keep the essence of the look the same.
I’m excited to try this outfit out myself, mixing patterns and colors for new ways to wear my favorite items.
