Now I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had a fear of mixing and matching different patterns and textures and such. However, since I’ve spent two months observing all these confident British Fashionistas/os, I think I’ve figured out a few tricks for the beginner (like yours truly).
From afar, this Fashionista’s outfit looks quite simple, but upon closer inspection you can see the detail in her pattern shorts and, more importantly, the detail around the collar in her sleeveless blouse. You may be thinking, “well of course these pieces go together, they’re black and white,” but what makes her look so interesting is the delicate mixing of patterns and textures.
High-waisted jean shorts are the shorts of the summer, especially if you’re hitting up any of the great musical festivals across the country. Of course, there are more options than the classic blue jean shorts. You can find high-waisted jean shorts in every color of the rainbow, as well as bleached, embroidered or even with faded floral prints on them.
It’s about time though that these retro shorts move over for their dressier sister. Check out this Fashionista for a look at woven high-waisted shorts. Woven shorts are lighter weight than denim shorts making them perfect for these toasty August days! They also tend to be a bit looser around your legs and they come in all sorts of fun patterns and prints. This Fashionista picked up her black and white polka dot pair from Forever 21.
These woven shorts can be worn in various ways, whether it is with a dressy blouse like this Fashionista, a crop top or even a denim jacket. As long as you’re confident about your look, you’ll be able to rock any outfit!
