FASHION FROM ABROAD: Pretty In Pants

Fashion From Abroad

Due to the Moorish occupation in the eighth century, southern Spain has a highly Arabic influence. While walking through what appears to be sketchy alleyways in Granada, one often discovers “artesania” markets. These are streets of Arabic owned shops that house home-made goods such as tapestries, scarves, pottery and jewelry. During our first week here, my roommate and I discovered this shop and swore that we would be back to purchase a bright pair of harem pants before we return to the United States in May.

When I saw this Fashionista walking into class wearing a version of these coveted pants, I could not help but be reminded of the rich culture of this area. Harem pants are the new maxi dress. The light fabric and breezy fit allows a Fashionista to breathe while still looking put together. Thankfully, you do not have to travel across the Atlantic to purchase a pair, but rather check your closest Forever 21. If you are feeling a little iffy about the mix of a new style and bright colors, here’s a pair that is a little more tame.

Making this new staple piece winter appropriate, means adding a pair of motorcycle boots for this Fashionista. This studded pair adds a little hardware to an otherwise boho look. To further winterize, add the jacket of your choice. Lately, I have been obsessed with the way that a longer jacket, like this Fashionista’s, creates cohesion in an outfit.

Growing up, my mother had always told me that every piece of jewelry you wear needs to match in color and style, but those close-minded rules of fashion are outdated in the daring times of 2014. I love the way this dainty everyday necklace is mixed with the green beaded necklace. This sea-foam adds to the crafty, handmade look creating the perfect complement to the look.
