FASHION FROM ABROAD: Modern Military

First introduced within the context of World War II, military style has an unequaled functionality. However, these days, it offers more than comfort and practicality, being a stylish option that breaks from the routine. Recently seen on the runways under the mastery of style mavens like Marc Jacobs and Gucci, military—also called utilitarian—style offers the wearer a distinctive aura. As this week’s Fashionista declared, military style has a certain tough charm to it, giving a bit of tomboy flair to the one sporting it.

This style has several particular features; the most salient are its olive green and earthy shades, historically used for camouflage in battle, and the abundance of cargo pockets, zippers and buttons. Our Fashionista’s look translates these details mainly on the skirt, a low cut summery piece that she flawlessly combines with precise and simple cuts. She brings out the olive green shade of the skirt by wearing a simple white top layered with a white fringy vest. The vest is a nice addition, its detail smartly complementing the skirt in regards to both length and cut. The watch with its golden tone stays within the color scheme of the outfit while also representing a surprise element. The sneakers elevate the outfit through their unique charm: their military style is feminized by means of a flowery pattern. Lastly, to spice up and complement the ensemble, our Fashionista wore her hair in light waves, a sunny and feminine choice that furthermore brings a paradoxical allure to the look as a whole.
