Thanks to being on the opposite side of the world (and below the equator), one of Australia’s endearing quirks is that winter is in full swing by June. So if you’re a Fashionista in the land down under, now is the time to bundle up. Recently, I left my beloved Sydney behind and took flight to Melbourne, Australia’s second most-populated city. Known for its impressive collection of graffiti street art, Melbourne embraces individuality with its funky vibe.
This Fashionista played up Melbourne’s urban atmosphere with this expertly layered ensemble. As a Miami native, every winter at the University of Florida I struggle with one of life’s hardest questions – should I look cute or be warm? This Fashionista proves that you can have your cake and eat it too. Her look comes off as effortlessly chic but still keeps her toasty in Melbourne’s frostbite-inducing 30-degree weather.
I for one am thrilled that denim button-ups are back in style. Less structured than a denim jacket, they’re so easy to throw on and go. This Fashionista’s light wash button-up is the perfect layering piece to complement her black knitted sweater. She topped off her look with a black infinity scarf, which is so ridiculously versatile that you absolutely must add one to your closet if you haven’t already.
Her rust-colored pants break up the neutral top-half of the outfit with a pop of color. Colored denim works in every season, but muted tones like this are perfect for winter. She tucked in her pants into a pair of combat boots. Combat boots are essential. They will go with anything and everything from jeans to dresses.
I love this Fashionista’s brown boots because I’ve always believed in mixing black and brown. The old standards of “Don’t wear brown shoes with a black belt,” or “Don’t wear white after Labor Day” are so passé. Rules were meant to be broken, right?
