FASHION FROM ABROAD: Kiwi Style

Strutting across campus at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro I came across this Kiwi and her cool outfit. Kiwi is another term for a New Zealander and let me tell you, Kiwi’s know a lot about fashion! This Fashionista rocks what she calls a “typical Kiwi look” on her way to class and lets me in on the details from her fashion from abroad.

Starting off, this Fashionista is wearing a white crop top that has “Tommy Hilfiger” embroidered upside down across the chest. The short sleeves are cuffed as it is very common to cuff your sleeves in New Zealand for a cute more relaxed look. According to this Fashionista, another common trend that Kiwi’s love is to wear is high waisted jeans, which the Fashionista herself is wearing, cuffed at the bottom and tied together with a black belt. On her feet, she wears platform white sneakers to give herself a more edgy and fun look. Lastly, this Fashionista ties together her look with a unique gold chained necklace that was passed down from her grandmother. Oh, and how could I forget?! A classic Kiwi up-do is the half up half down bun, which this Fashionista is wearing.

From the cropped-cuffed T-shirt to the high waisted jeans and from platform sneakers to the half up half down bun, this Fashionista says that if you ever find yourself roaming the streets of any New Zealand city, you’re likely to see at least one aspect of her outfit in almost every Kiwi look. So next time you go to throw on your favorite high waisted jeans or your new platform sneakers, remember that those special pieces are a “typical Kiwi look” and appreciate your inspiration from fashion from abroad.
