Warm weather is approaching, which means it’s time to take initiative and dive into those DIY projects that are constantly saved on Pinterest but never accomplished. The rising temperatures tend to bring out the creativity in us, resulting in an abundance of homemade high-waisted jean shorts and T-shirts turned into crop tops. Although this Fashionista is wearing her own DIY project, it is one I have never seen before, and I have to admit I am very impressed.
DIY is a trend that has been on the rise for a few years now. As time progresses, unique ways of turning old clothing into something new continue to be discovered. This Fashionista went thrift shopping and bought a cheap XXL mens polo. From there, it was all in her hands. She cut off the collar and sleeves of the shirt to create an adorable tank dress. Simple as that! She even added a low scoop neckline in front and in back. Not only did this DIY turn out great, it looks comfortable too. Throw a bandeau under the dress and you’re all set. This dress can easily be made with your dad’s or brother’s old polo shirt, so sneak into their closets and get to work. A pair of Steve Madden boots, black leggings and H&M sunglasses are added to finish off her relaxed look.
The great thing about DIY projects is that you can customize them to your own taste. If you’re feeling bold, just take a pair of scissors and do your thing. If you’re like me, you may need a little guidance. There are many YouTube channels specifically dedicated to DIY projects. Ann Le, the creator of Anneorshine YouTube channel and LifeAnnStyle.com, has hundreds of videos explaining how to do fashion, beauty and craft DIY projects I love to refer to.
Being a college student myself, I am drawn to DIY projects because they are so inexpensive and can be super fun. Although splurging on a new spring wardrobe can be tempting, challenge yourself to search high-and-low at your local thrift store for the perfect DIY project. I often work on projects with my friends. We bounce ideas off of each other and before you know it, everyone has a one-of-a-kind outfit. The reward of knowing you created something you love from something you wouldn’t have worn is satisfaction in itself. On top of that, you get to flaunt a personally made outfit for everyone to admire. It may seem intimidating at first, but you’ll never know if you don’t try.
