FASHION FROM ABROAD: Decoding Dallas Style

January 16th, 2017 at 2:00am

It’s always exciting to travel to a new place and immerse yourself in the local culture, but sometimes your hometown can provide equally exciting discoveries with a little effort. Dallas style can be a hard one to tackle because of the very unpredictable weather. In the winter, everyone loves a chic fur coat and stylish pair of boots to keep them warm, but in Dallas, that can be a hard compromise to find with the 70 degree winter weather.

This outfit is all about bringing back it back to the basics and layering. Under a plush Hollister cardigan is a black long sleeve cropped top, so whenever the weather in Texas feels like being unpredictable, you can always shed a layer to beat the heat! Black jeans are always a great staple to have and this pair from Levi’s is easy to rock in any season. Wearing all black serves as a blank canvas and allows you to either play it up or keep it simple. The focus on the accessory here is the purse. The navy blue Tory Burch tote is a classic piece. Huge totes are extremely versatile and commonplace on the Dallas streets because, “everything is bigger in Texas!” Using a tote in a color other than black adds a some dimension to the outfit. Everyone should own a pair of riding boots, especially in the South. Whether in black or brown, they’re a quick, easy way to top off an outfit. If the Texas weather really seems to be sending a winter breeze, riding boots go great with a pair of leg warmers.

Dallas style is all about comfort and simplicity. Comfort in the layering for the winter weather and simplicity in the accessories that complement the outfit. The best outfits are those that serve as a blank slate and have statement pieces that really catch other people’s eyes.
