FASHION FROM ABROAD: Color-Blocking

Everything is beautiful in Rome. The food is beautiful, the people are beautiful, the clothes, stores and streets are beautiful. As much as they are beautiful, women here are also incredibly talented. For instance, if I were to wear heels and walk on these cobblestone streets as they do, I would most likely break my ankle. I photographed one of these beautiful women on her way to aperitivo with her friends one evening. This is one of my favorite outfits that I have seen here in the city so far.

This woman is wearing bright pink high-waisted trousers made of a fabric called chiffon. Since the weather in Rome is warm and humid during this time of year, incorporating a light fabric like this one ensures that you are comfortable while being fashion-forward (a winning combination). Along with the bright pink trousers, she is wearing a black crewneck top and black lace-ups with closed-toed sandals. Both selections are elegant pieces that dress up her look. Solid color-blocking is a very popular style here and I often see outfits consisting of black and a bright color.

She’s also carrying a black Kate Spade cross-body bag with gold chains, zippers and logos. The bag is not too big or clunky so it doesn’t get in her way when roaming around the city. She is also wearing a gold monogram necklace and a bracelet. The combination of black clothing and gold detailing complements the pink pants perfectly, making this one of the most beautiful outfits for a summer night out in Rome.
