The androgyny trend hit runways last spring and since then has been seen throughout many designer’s collections. The idea of taking masculine pieces such as a blazer and making it feminine have existed for many years but are recently becoming a staple style in many women’s wardrobes. One style that has become increasingly popular with fall is the military-inspired trend. This trend plays off the idea of androgyny and allows women to wear masculine pieces without feeling unfeminine.

CollegeFashionista: Tell me about your outfit.
Jill Hankemeier: I chose to wear this jacket because it was cold out this morning but still offered a sense of my personal style. Then I just paired it with an infinity scarf, jeans and my brown boots.
CF: What is your favorite aspect of fall fashion?
JH: Definitely layers.
CF: What is one item in your closet that you cannot live without?
JH: My brown boots, they are so versatile. However, I would say that the right pair of shoes and a good watch make an outfit.
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
JH: I like to find traditionally masculine pieces with a feminine twist, like this jacket.
How To: The military style is quite easy to tackle especially since many designers have made collections based solely off of it. Start off with a military-inspired jacket, which can be found at any store ranging from Forever 21 to Topshop or NASTY GAL. Once you have a jacket play around with different types of bottoms, may it be leggings or jeans. Top off the look with a warm scarf and a comfy pair of boots!
