My name is Erin Taylor Fahan and I will be writing to you from overseas in London, England. I am a senior Psychology major at the University of Connecticut. However, my true passion lies in studying the pages of Vogue and our ever-evolving fashion scene. Fashion icons emerge on the streets from major cities around the world, to which I have dedicated the next semester to finding and reporting back to you. I look forward to the adventure and to living the next five months out of one suitcase packed with my favorite ensembles.
I would say my ultimate fashion icon would have to be the legendary Miss Audrey Hepburn, as I can always look to her to be sophisticated, elegant and timelessly beautiful. Yet, I also gain style inspiration from the Olsen twins’ bohemian look and refined juxtaposition. I have gone through many phases throughout the years but I have been drawn to a classically chic look in my college days. Thanks to distinct and dynamic fashion advice from my own mother — a woman who wears everything from designer pieces to faded ripped jeans — I have developed my own style approach. I would say that I like to start an outfit with a classic canvas and complete it with one statement piece. I enjoy button-downs and jeans mixed with a brightly colored scarf, or a black dress with wild tights or a white T-shirt with an eye-catching necklace. One statement piece is all you need in an outfit, whether it’s shoes or jewelry or your favorite boyish over-sized sweater you wear on occasion. No matter what though, I believe you should wear an outfit that fits your personality and gives you confidence, while allowing your inner Fashionista/o to glow!
I don’t know where I will end up or where my degree will take me but I hope to travel the world first. All I know is New York City is the foreseeable destination, where endless opportunities and more fashion inspiration await. As my first semester as a Style Guru, I look forward incorporating European fashion into my own wardrobe and helping you all do the same!
