This week's Fashionista is a prime example of how to utilize all layers of clothing without looking super bundled. As I saw her walking down the hallway on my way to class I couldn't help but realize she had on multiple layers of clothing and still looked clean and very crisp. When talking to this week's Fashionista, I noticed that her outfit really described her personality as she seemed to be calm with well thought out ideas, just like her layered outfit. She not only exemplifies how to use fall colored layers but also how to find them with every Fashionista's favorite word, discount.
Name: Odette Yoder
Major: Media Art and Design
Year: Senior
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Odette Yoder: My shoes are oxfords and from Urban Outfitters. I got my jeans from Forever 21 as well as some of my bangles. I believe my shirt is Madewell and my sweater is Gap. These earrings are from Franchescas and lastly my coat is from Old Navy.
CF: Who's your inspiration when it comes to putting outfits together?
OY: I’m not really big on finding my inspiration through celebrities. I like to look at about twenty different fashion blogs and what other people are wearing on campus. There's this one blog called kandieverything that I really enjoy reading.
CF: What's your favorite part about dressing for fall?
OY: I really love layering and wearing scarves as well as boots. I think wearing multiple layers is such a convenience during the fall and winter. It’s really not an excuse to keep warm but to be able to really dress up.
CF: What stores have the best fall apparel?
OY: I'm a huge fan of Gap. I think Gap has really great sales. Madewell I think is great too but it saddens me they aren’t anywhere in the Harrisonburg area. Locally, I’d have to say Old Navy and Target is my best bet and are great with prices as well as American Eagle Outfitters, which I find their line to be pretty great this fall.
CF: Do you have a favorite technique when it comes to shopping for these fall items?
OY: Usually I will resort to the trends on my favorite fashion blogs I look at and then search online for sales that are going on. I only really invest in pieces that will carry out for the rest of that season at a discounted price.
CF: What's the fall trend you think is the biggest hit of 2012?
OY: I think colored denim is really big this year especially in the cut of skinny jeans. I have seen a lot of patterned pants as well that's been carried over from the spring and summer but in deeper fall color tones.
How To: The key to this Fashionista's look is being able to pull off a sweater with any colors or patterns as an undertone. This Fashionista did a great job of using solid colors to tie her outfit together but patterns and textures are okay as well. The main idea is to pull colors that complements whatever sweater you choose. Base your pants off of your top that matches with your sweater. Its okay to go crazy with patterns, after all this bottom patterned trend is still carrying on from spring and summer.
