Being on campus during the summer time definitely has its share of perks. I personally love it because you get to enjoy all of the things your campus has to offer without the additional stresses of a full course load, exams, work, friends and staying fashionable. It’s a lot to handle! Summer is more carefree. At American University, summertime is also used to allow incoming freshmen the opportunity to experience campus life without the additional stresses mentioned above. This means awkward conversations and icebreakers that only end up making things more awkward. Talk about counterproductive! One of the most common introduction questions is asking the person's favorite color. I am a firm believer that a person’s favorite color says a lot about their personality.
Aside from being my absolute favorite color, yellow is very much a summer worshipper's go-to color. As mentioned in previous posts, I believe that colors, especially when it comes to wardrobe choices, are extremely indicative of how an individual is feeling. Colors have the ability to change your mood, bring out a facet of your personality or give a boost of some much-needed confidence. Neutrals tend to be associated with colder weather and more frigid climates, while brighter colors are associated with warm tropical ones.
This Fashionista immediately caught my eye with her oversized sunglasses, detailed hijab (a traditional headscarf) and fringe hobo bag. What is not to love about the entire outfit? She pulls off all the elements impeccably. But the one feature I love most about the ensemble is the extra pop of color in her yellow blouse. If you look a little closer, you will see a small embroidery, which adds more character to a plain, bright blouse. She makes the blouse the focal point of her outfit by pairing it with solid dark colors and accessories. Adding a pop of color to your outfit is essential to making one stand out, but it must be done in a classy, understated way. No one wants to be that guy or girl who looks like they are trying too hard. So follow in the footsteps of this Fashionista, and look for classic pieces in brighter colors to give you that extra appeal.
