TREND: Patterns and Colours and Layers, Oh My!

Uncategorized

Once again, we have not been graced with the warmest of weather this week, despite it nearly being June. I’m sure plenty of you have flounced out of your houses in shorts, dresses, T-shirts and flip flops, only to be driven inside and into jeans, coats and jackets. I know I have. But while we’re waiting for the weather to catch up with the season, let's indulge in the last few winter outfits gracing the streets of Manchester!

This week’s Fashionista courageously blends colours and patterns into an outfit that is stylish and unique. Soft flannel shirts give off a '70s vibe that is very in this season and very handy for days like this one when the weather gets the best of us! Search charity and vintage shops for an individual steal. Oxfam online has a selection, such as this light coloured number. Button your shirt up to the very top for geek chic look, which is also very popular.

I absolutely love this Fashionista’s orange shorts. They’re like a little shout out to summer. Bright colours are what this season is all about with fun patterns and highlighter colours bouncing along runways. For a pair of your own try American Apparel, who have recently injected their stock with fresh, strong hues. They clash with her shirt in a way that demands attention and recalls a '70s colour combination.

Over the top, this week’s Fashionista has layered an oversized jumper, adding to the geek chic look, which is fitting, as I caught her right outside the library! The rich red pulls the colours together into a mixture of earthy, autumnal colours. Finally she has layered over the top a fur coat that adds an element of glamour to the whole thing. What is important to notice here is that while the colours playfully clash, they all play off the central colour of brown. When clashing colours, try to hem the colour scheme to a general theme, in this case autumn.

So while we are waiting for summer to catch up with us, let’s clash with colours and patterns for a playful send off to winter!
