When in doubt — simplify. This week’s Fashionista represents my advice perfectly with a look that is elegant and easy to pull off. What I like most about this outfit is its structure and shape; the hard linear lines of her blazer create a lovely sophisticated look. It is a perfect for toting books around the library.
It is rather blustery in Manchester at the moment, so any Fashionista/o must set aside their summer wardrobe for a few days and don winter garments. Today's Fashionista keeps her look simple under her blazer by sticking to more wintery base colours. But here it is the skirt that really shines; the high-waisted, A-line shortness of it cuts clean lines with perfect tailoring. When layering a looser jumper over the top of a skirt, it is best that the skirt have tailoring such as this so that there is not too much volume. A thicker skirt has more weight and today's Fashionista has used this to add seriousness to her outfit. Here is a very structured skirt from Zara that will have the same effect.
It is important to add some light when one’s main colours are dark and this camel blazer does the job well. It also creates a streamline effect to keep the outfit long. Therefore we look at the length of the blazer, not at the horizontal line where skirt and jumper meet. Long blazers are a very good way for Fashionistas who want to add height and length to their body to do so. This week’s Fashionista has rolled up the sleeves of her blazer to create a boyfriend blazer look, which adds a casual element. Exposing skinny wrists makes the whole arm look smaller, a good way to minimise! A very graceful, very delicate blazer of a similar calibre can be found in MANGO. The fabric is lighter and looser which may be a better investment for summer.
But what sets off the whole outfit is the necklace on the Fashionista’s neck. The gold goes well with the warmth of the blazer and is a classic finish to the look. Find a number of pendant necklaces everywhere at the moment, but Accessorize harbour the most intriguing. Check out the slightly eccentric telephone pendant.
