The Starbucks clutched in her hand, the little short sleeved cardigan, the fragile little shoes and her oversized sunglasses – they all spell summer to me! What isn’t optimistic about this outfit?
Let’s begin with the dress. On her slim figure the cut is perfect and I like the change of fabric to chiffon pleats at the bottom. The tone of it also is very pretty and an orange-hued colour, which matches the favourite hue of the spring/summer shows. The amazing thing about block colours, such as this, is that the colour seems so saturated it pops out. For those who can pull off a high-neck such as this, here is a polkadot version at Topshop. The brilliant thing about this dress, however, is that it can be unbuttoned for those on whom the high-cut is unflattering.
It is usually a slight risk to mix two bright colours together, but this Fashionista manages to slot the two colours together perfectly. When choosing a colour clash, try to stick to only two and of completely opposing colours, at that. The blue of the cardigan works so well with the color of the dress because it is so cool when the dress is so warm. The short sleeves and length of the cardigan also make it and unusual and interesting addition to the look.
Of course, when one speaks of big bug eyes sunglasses, one is reminded immediately of Breakfast at Tiffany’s – elegance, class and glamour. These work the same magic on this Fashionista here and they bring edginess to the outfit. There are plenty in stores, at the moment, that carry them and the best thing about these particular sunglasses is that they suit most faces. For a simple and inexpensive way to look cool in summer heat, here is an oversized pair from Mango.
Finally, doesn’t her bag absolutely speak class? The burgandy colour that goes with her dress, the simple clasp and the gold metal borders, they are all excellent. For a soft leather bag such as this, it is probably best to go to any shop in the Northern Quarter and paw through the piles of bags until you find something similar.
I think this summer drenched Fashionista has given us all a bit of a boost for the day!
