Everyone who owns a pair of Sperry Topsiders has heard of the unspoken rule to not wear socks with your boatshoes. Well, in the fashion world people don't really follow the rules. That's what makes great fashion. As I was walking around Columbia, I was suprised to see a pair of Topsiders walking down the street complemented by a pair of socks! I looked up to the rest of this Fashionista's outfit and was happy with what I saw. Her skateboarder/bohemian ensemble totally explained her non-conforming way of wearing maroon socks with faded maroon Sperrys. I would never think to put all these elements together, but I'm glad this Fashionista did.
In a college town where boat shoes are as common as Nike shorts it might be hard to be unique in your shoe choice, but this week's Fashionista proves her style individuality with a casual cool update to her pair of shoes. Not only is she wearing socks with her Sperrys, but they are a deep red that stands out against her skin. And, they don't stop below her ankles. Her socks want to be seen. Not only is this Fashionista going against the norm with her bold socks, but wearing boat shoes instead of skateboarding shoes really shows this Fashionista's carefree attitude. I love how the faded brownish red color of her shoes is picked up in her skirt and thin belt too.
Spotted: Madewell shows patterned socks that are meant to be seen with shoes in their fall lookbook.
