ACCESSORIES REPORT: Circular Sunnies

Accessories Report

I may be wrong, probably because I'm biased, but I think Nicole Richie set the oversized sunglasses trend. Am I right? Besides being my celebrity idol, Nicole Richie is a long standing fashion icon. Maybe she didn't start the large framed sunglasses trend, but she definietly wore it the best. The trend lasted a few years and then frames got a bit smaller, but now, large frames are coming back and in a very distinct shape: circles. We all know the '70s style gold rimmed lenses that John Lennon wore and the purple tinted ones seen on Ozzy Osbourne. Well, these same famous frames are back and with a chic updated look.

This week's Fashionista does a great job rocking a hot pair of circular lenses with an equally rocking outfit. The '70s style frames are not too big or too small for this Fashionista's face and they are tinted enough to do their job. From her lace skirt and graphic tank to the naturistic necklace, these sunglasses are simple enough to not add cluttter to her outfit but bold enough to make a statement. They give her boho look a mysterious feel, don't you think? They also help even out the stark contrast of her black shoes against her cream skirt by adding another dark color.

While these circle shaped shades were an excellent choice for this Fashionista's outfit, their simple outline makes them a very universal accessory. Wear them with lace layers and drapey cardigans for a retro look, or with some skinny pants and a peter pan collared shirt for a sophisticated style.

Spotted: Diane von Furstenberg displays round framed shades down her spring/summer 2010 runway.
