I am a huge fan of this Fashionisto’s look; he takes retro to a whole new level by pairing a bulky, chic leather jacket with vintage leather combat boots. The greatest aspect of his look is how diversely he contrasts it with chic and classy. The way he integrates fierce retro into an overall classy look makes for a powerfully stunning fashion statement, one that can best be achieved by simply mixing it up. He shows that by pushing the fashion boundaries, in which some of us are afraid to cross, and mixing different styles together, outfits will almost always result positively chic and stylish. He lightens his dark feel with a refreshing gray T-shirt and a matching gray infinity scarf, also known as a cowl scarf. The cowl scarf is a great accessory to add to any outfit, whether it is hot or cold. Throw it over a tank or V-neck for a beachy, bohemian look, or in Colby’s case, pair it with a basic tee and a retro leather jacket for that fall/winter warmth. Cowl scarves shield you from the cold, without making it seem like you were blown here by the wind. You can find this particular infinity scarf at American Apparel, however Forever 21 Men carries a nice variety of chic men's scarves as well.
Though this Fashionisto's infinity scarf is indeed fabulous, let’s talk more about his jacket. Now, I am a sucker for leather, especially when it comes to jackets. The aspect that struck me unique about Colby’s leather jacket in particular is the size. Over the years I have witnessed many leather jackets, whether it be in stores, magazines or on stylish individuals walking around town. Out of the many different leather jackets I have seen, there always seems to be one similarity: they are always fitting. No matter the personality, size or style of the person, leather jackets always seem to fit rather snug. I am guilty of this too. When I think leather, I think something that should fit tight against my skin, as if I were in one of Michael Jackson's music videos. Well, I thought that up until I spotted this Fashionisto. Now, I realize that my narrow mindedness has left me secluded from all the wonderful possibilities leather jackets have to offer. For example, the bulk size of the jacket accents his outfit in a completely different way than a tighter jacket would have. If we were to switch out the one above for a smaller one, his style could be transformed from the very masculine, military-esque feel presented above straight to hipsterdom without question. That is the true glory of size, and in this case, it matters.
Though you can find retro leather jackets at Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 Men, this Fashionisto found his for a bargain. Both his jacket and his leather combat boots were thrifted from a garage flea market in New York City. His gray basic tee can be found at American Apparel and his army green straights are from Forever 21 Men. Though they are currently sold out of the army green wovens, they do have khaki wovens in stock that look just as great! He illustrates not only that risk taking and crossing those strict fashion boundaries may turn out striking after all, but also that great fashion can be found at great prices. Happy shopping!
