LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Color Block After Block

Let's Hear it for the Boys

Color blocking has been one of the biggest trends for the past few seasons in the fashion world. Women have been all over this trend and it’s been seen on the runway too many times to count.

Men might find this trend intimidating because it includes the use of bright colors and lots of them. Sometimes it can be hard to tell what goes together and what definitely does not go together. The best way to color block is to choose one bright color for your top and pair it with a contrasting darker color on the bottom. Skip the pastels. Examples? A bright white top with red bottoms. A bright orange top with khakis bottoms. And like this Fashionisto did, a bright blue top with dark orange bottoms. Make sure to keep your accessories neutral colors, like this Fashionisto’s gray sneakers and black backpack. If your not sure what colors look good with what colors, look at a color wheel. Usually the colors that are three or four spaces apart, match.

If you want to go all out and try color blocking with more than two colors, make sure that only one of those colors is neon. Try one neon color, one bold color and one neutral color.

Hint: If you think this trend would be too difficult for you to tackle, don’t worry! I would never condone cheating, but in this case go for it. Try wearing a top that already has more than one bright color on it. I found this shirt from Alternative Apparel that basically does the work for you. Look at spring runway shows for inspiration and happy color blocking, Fashionistos!
