The average college student is found wearing solid black leggings, leather boots and a military or leather styled jacket on an ordinary day of class. The comfy, casual outfit is something easy to throw on and makes sense for a long day of classes and meetings. I ran into a sophomore communications major who revved up that everyday wardrobe. She traded the plain jane leggings for graphic printed ones in a bright red hue. To me, they look like graffiti which 100 percent fits this Fashionista’s personality. Her leather jacket differed from others with a ribbed waist and sleeves. Then, the real kicker, was displayed in her Dr. Marten combat boots. The popular footwear is distinguished by their yellow stitching and air cushioned soles, but this pair shined brighter than most.

Her British boot was different than most. The typical boot colors run through the neutral shades: black, brown, gray, something that would blend nicely with most outfits. This Fashionista went for a bolder look. Her metallic Dr. Martens were the perfect accessory to her edgy, rocker look.

For others out there looking to revamp their style with a more alternative vibe, check out Dr. Marten’s website. One style for adventurous Fashionista’s is the Shorestud. The black canvas boot shines almost as brightly as the metallic pair, decked in studs. For animal print lovers, give the 1460 style a try. The leopard print screams edgy and would pop amongst the footwear in most college classrooms.

If Dr. Martens aren’t for you but this style sparks an interest, check out the BDG Chelsea Lace Up Boot from Urban Outfitters. A simple combat comes in traditional shades of black and brown but also in maroon and turquoise shades. If simple is still for you, a basic combat style could be found from Steve Madden. The Troopa style in stone leather is a personal favorite. But don’t pass up an opportunity to be dangerous with an outfit. What’s there to lose?

Spotted: Rochas offers a lace up bootie in their spring 2013 collection. The completely black piece is different from a regular leather combat. Check it out for more style inspiration.
