While most of us are still winding down from Halloween shenanigans, the winter holidays have been on the mind of retailers for months. As evident from the Christmas displays already up in most malls and craft stores throughout the nation, it seems that the preparations begin earlier and earlier each year. The sight of a Santa hat in mid-October always makes me stop and wonder, “already?” But along with these incredulous feelings comes that wonderful bubbly excitement that only this time of the year can elicit. The period of time from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve is always jam packed with frantic gift shopping, cookie baking and at least two viewings of Chevy Chase Christmas Vacation. As a college student, I also need to consider what I will wear home to all of these festive occasions. That’s when I’m glad that my favorite retailer, ASOS, has already been pondering their holiday collection for months. ASOS saves the day with plenty of versatile options to carry me through the holiday season.
First on the agenda is Thanksgiving. As most turkey eaters understand, comfort is key when dressing for this holiday. Now, as Fashionistas, we would never consider busting out the sweat pants after a meal, so loose pieces are key to avoiding this fashion faux-pas. That’s why I chose the ASOS sweatshirt in color loop back oxblood and paired it with pine green ASOS crop pants. Not only is this color combination reminiscent of the upcoming Christmas season, but the sweatshirt is more polished than its name indicates with beautiful color variation and texture. The pants are equal parts stylish and comfortable as well, made out of a twill fabric that is 6% elastane. In other words, they have some stretch, ensuring that the top button will never need to be undone on this filling holiday. To finish the look, I added the ASOS bow front turban hat in burgundy. This piece dresses the ensemble up a bit while simultaneously picking up on color from the sweatshirt.
After Thanksgiving and the dreaded finals are finished, it comes time to pack for winter break. This is when, as many friends will tell you, my patience skills are always put to the test. I rely on adaptable pieces that can be worn many ways in order to navigate this tricky task. For my Christmas ensemble, I employed my beloved ASOS sweatshirt again. This time I wore it over the ASOS skater dress in lace to add a sophisticated flare. The pairing reads cozy but is still formal enough for the occasion. For some fluffy drama, I opted for the ASOS faux fur snood. With this addition, the sweatshirt takes on a whole new persona and ties in the gray tones of my shoes. Oh yes, have I mentioned the shoes? These ASOS PEBBLE mary jane heels were the perfect choice for my seasonal shopping. The two-tone leather and interesting straps immediately elevate any outfit, and the best part is that the heel is perfectly manageable for cold weather conditions.
With Christmas (or Kwanzaa and Hanukkah) wrapped up, New Year’s is on its way. I think most of us can agree that dressing for New Year’s Eve is by far the best part of holiday fashion. It is the one time of year where all-out glitz and glamour is the norm. For my New Years’ look, I will be wearing the skater lace dress again (really getting bang for my buck!) with the ASOS metallic gold tights to add some shine. I love how the pairing comes off as both classic and modern.
So if the sight of jingle bells in October strikes a stressful chord, don’t be alarmed. Dressing yourself for the holidays is the fun part, especially when a handful of great pieces from ASOS can be styled a variety of ways. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “I’m not supposed to be shopping for myself at this time.” Never fear, I have a solution! Kill two birds with one stone and have your parents pick up the tab. You will look fabulous and they won’t have to stress about what to buy you — talk about holiday giving.
