STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Business Up Front, Party on Top

Uncategorized

The business casual look has always been the go-to intern wardrobe, and it seems this summer is no different than the last. Students come to school in their shorts and tees and hustle home to get ready for work. The no-jeans rule most companies have is tough to follow for most college kids who live and breathe denim.

This Fashionista, however, did herself a favor by combining a cute, neutral outfit so that it translates flawlessly from school straight into work. Her business look includes a navy blue pencil skirt, deep V-neck tee, and a beige blazer. It’s simple, classic and ultimately timeless. The (almost literal) cherry on top is her delightful little red and white striped, silk bow. It adds character to a seemingly business-like outfit in that it shows you just a peek into her personality. Her studded open toe flats, nose piercing, and amazing nautical, triple-finger ring also helps flaunt her sassy sense of style.

I can’t stress enough the importance of accessories. It’s a way to express yourself when expression is out of the question. If you are working for a big shot corporation its tough to show the real you when all you can really wear are pencil skirts, uncomfortable cotton pants and constricting button down shirts. But a true Fashionista wont let that stop her. Adding accessories to a bland outfit will set you apart from the other interns and show that you want to represent the company you work for in a good light by looking your best.

Try simple understated accessories if the company you work for seems a bit uptight and feel like you’ll stand out like a sore thumb. This beaded, and not to mention, inexpensive headband from Forever 21 is a perfect touch to keep back unruly bangs and let a bit of your personality shine through. For those who may have a more lackadaisical setting at work and enjoy conversation accessories, try anything from Fredflare.com. This adorable Librarian pin is too cute to pass up and adds a bit of a funky aspect to any outfit. This White Star Compass necklace is possibly the most perfect accessory for any of you who adore the timeless love story of Jack and Rose. The back of the compass has an engraving that reads “White Star Line R.M.S Titanic 1912”. This necklace is not only incredibly chic but inserts into your wardrobe a tiny piece that stars immediate discussion and possibly, swooning. For a subtle touch of chic, try this tribal print belt from Deep Dark Africa with a solid color dress and some pumps to show your boss you’re not afraid to look fabulous.
