STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Lovely Leggings

Style Advice of the Week

When I spotted this Fashionista, avoiding the elements with a huge scarf and earmuffs, I shared her sentiments of wanting to hurry out of the frigid weather and into the nearest building to warm up my hands. It was one of the coldest days of the year, but I was impressed by her ability to dress up her neutral, olive-green coat with printed leggings.

On a cold day like this, leggings are perfect. They are comfy, can easily be tucked into furry winter boots and once you arrive home at the end of a long day of classes, they are perfect for snuggling up with a fleece blanket. While most people rock basic black leggings, you can also, like this Fashionista, try cozy Fair Isle knits. This trend, which started two winters ago, has remained in our closets this winter because it is such an easy way to dress up a neutral coat.

Clearly though, Fair Isle is not the only type of print available on leggings. Drawing inspiration from Alexander McQueen, it is possible to find floral dragonfly motifs.  If you feel daring enough to try such bold prints, check out ASOS for virtually every pattern imaginable, from bananas to galaxy print. Tamer patterns, such as stripes are another great option. This trend is especially useful if you have a neutral coat, especially a black peacoat, which you would like to pair with funkier pants. Pile on a chunky infinity scarf for warmth and you will be able to survive any cold day that Providence throws at you with comfort and style.
