STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: January Blues

Style Advice of the Week

What is the best way to beat the January blues? Ironically, it can be done by sporting a deep shade of cobalt. As the short daylight hours play out throughout the month, the Providence landscape is dark and covered in frosty grays. When I spotted this Fashionista dashing to class, her long coat was a bright splash of blue against this wintry backdrop. Paired with black and white floral jeans, this is the ultimate way to stay warm while enjoying bold colors and patterns that are often covered by black peacoats in the dead of winter

Like the lovely pieces featured in designers’ autumn/winter collections, from Stella McCartney to Moschino, a wool coat like this is one of the best ways to wear this shade of blue. It is successful because a bright piece like this can both complement a colorful scarf or sweater underneath and also be the focal point of an outfit when it is so cold that it must be buttoned all the way up.

So, my best advice for anyone living in a colder climate is to invest in such a bold coat. Any outerwear featuring shades of blue or bold patterns can bring a touch of happiness in the chilly days that lie ahead for the first month of the year. Pair it with other patterned pieces that peek out in jeans or in a scarf, but either way this lovely coat is an easy to beat the blues of January with shades of lovely cobalt blue.
