Shorts! It’s not too early. What could be better for Spring Weekend, Senior Week and all of the upcoming frolicking on the Main Green? Even Spring Break is approaching quickly, and temperatures will soon heat up. In the meantime, with temps in the mid-30s and mounds of snow flanking the streets, I was so excited about my new Printed Midi Shorts that I braved the less-than-desirable shorts weather to test them out.
Shorts are one of the best articles of clothing. Partially because I associate them with summer and also because they offer incredible freedom of movement. In warmer months, they are both practical enough to bike to work and stylish enough to wear out to concerts and barbecues. These patterned shorts in particular, with their comfy fit but vibrant print, strike this perfect balance.
Because I am not in full spring mode yet, I wanted to maximize the warmth factor of this outfit. I paired my favorite dark chambray shirt with a purple cardigan. Luckily, the purple and navy blue provide the right mix of neutral and color to make the pink patterns on my shorts pop. Any bright cardigan, like the American Eagle Outfitters Open Stitch Cardigan in Plumberry achieves this effect.
As for footwear, it is still a touch too chilly for lime-green pedicures and open-toed shoes. My tan heeled booties keep my feet warm but also fit my color scheme of netruals-meets-brights. Mid-April, I will swap these out for either a pair of DV Wedges or some comfy Strappy Sandals.
As the snow melts and the days grow longer, I look forward to the gorgeous spring days when I will be able to wear my shorts to class comfortably, hopefully with the Chiffon Back High-Lo Tank. Luckily, AEO’s summer gear will ensure comfort and style as the weather warms up.
