Lately, I have found that I cannot avoid images of nail art. My Pinterest newsfeed continually blows up with designs as basic as polka-dots and as complicated as iPhone apps. It was exciting to spot this Fashionista’s stripes-and-solids, bumblebee-inspired toenails outside Barus and Holly. Each toe is slightly different, but the design is cohesive because of her consistent use of color.
As someone who has always struggled to keep a steady hand when painting my nails, I feel apprehensive about trying to make my nail resemble a pencil. To ease into the nail art trend, I found a tutorial for painting striped nails. This blogger recommends the use of small strips of masking tape to keep stripes even. To get this Fashionista’s look, paint a few of your nails a lemony hue, such as this Mellow Yellow color, with alternate black nails. Choose one, or as many as you like, on which to experiment with stripes.
The best part about this design is that the cheery colors and patterns offer a good color compromise for wearing neutrals. Initially, I was drawn to this Fashionista’s long, olive vest. This Urban Outfitters vest, paired with an LBD or a similarly all-black ensemble, is a fun, neutral outfit that gets a color boost with fun nails. As the warm weather starts to wind down, take advantage of your ability to show off your toenails with a pair of flat wedge sandals. This balance of earthy colors and bold nails is a great way to enjoy these neutral pieces without feeling starved for color.
