ACCESSORIES REPORT: Make a Statement

Accessories Report

Lately I’ve been embracing the minimal look, avoiding excessive layering and sticking to simply one top and a bottom. This allows me to counteract the bare essentials with a more sophisticated piece of jewelry that I am always dying to wear. I dedicated a wall in my room to all of my necklaces, ranging from petite, fragile trinkets to ones that weigh over a pound embedded with crystals and completely bedazzled. Statement necklaces and earrings are not exclusive to formals and dinner dates but can also be worn on a daily basis when styled correctly. Here are a few tips on picking out the ideal necklace.

Keep in mind that the necklace you choose will draw a lot of attention so it’s best to let it shine on it’s own without too much competition from intricate necklines or outstanding earrings. Most people tend to put up their hair to show off the entirety of the piece but this is not always necessary. Another trend this season is wearing a statement piece with a chambray, collared shirt buttoned to the very top to create a more refined look. Also, strapless tops are made for a killer necklace but avoid one shoulder tops because the necklace will throw off the balance.

This Fashionista was spotted rocking a breathtaking statement piece to go along with her simple yet elegant outfit. The coral and black color combination is trending because the contrast between the black really highlights the intense red tones. This ensemble is perfected with the lovely crystal floral necklace that brightens up the whole look. The low neckline of the dress practically begs for a piece of this caliber, adding a kick of flair. The necklace can be worn with a night outfit such as this one or can be easily paired up with a simple solid colored dress for a more daytime look.

Spotted: Tory Burch, Free People and David Yurman all featured geometric style chokers/necklaces in their fall 2012 catalogue.
