DO IT YOURSELF—Map Art

“You can’t know where you are going until you know where you have been.” “It’s the journey not the destination.” [Insert every other cliché quote about travel here].

While, yes, these quotes are pinned to every inspirational Pinterest board from here to Timbuktu, there is something to be said about the pleasure of travel and reflection. Whether it was a semester abroad, a fun spring break trip or even simply missing your hometown, finding ways to keep those places and memories you cherish close to your heart is important while back on campus.

To create your own travel memento while also sprucing up your bedroom wall, try following these easy steps to make some personalized map art. (Cliché quote optional.)

Materials

  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Map
  • Glitter
  • Black Tape
  • White paper

Directions

1. Decide which three states you want to feature and cut them out of the map using the border lines.

2. Make a heart using glue over the specific city you love.

3. Pour glitter over the glue heart and shake off the excess glitter.

4. Lightly glue your cut out states onto a piece of white paper.

5. Use black tape to make a cool frame.
