Why watch the Phillies or the Flyers when you can have one on TV and one streaming live on your lap top? Why choose between listening to Yeezy or Hov when you can have a little mix going on Pandora? Why buy new Christian Louboutins or Valentinos when you open a new card and charge them both!? I am all sorts of indecisive, and with the great trends this season and last, it is difficult to choose which ones to incorporate into an outfit. But you don’t have to choose. Although some trends are bold enough to stand on their own, they can also complement each other perfectly.
Like the Fashionista, you can tastefully combine different trends into one outfit for an overall fashionable look. She rocks the prints on the bottom half with awesome wide-leg pants. At the same time she pulls from last season’s menswear obsession with a cream tie-front blouse on top. The accessories are also right on point. The turquoise layered necklace, Michael Kors watch and two-toned nude and black pumps are a fun way to round out the look.
In my opinion, the key to combining trends is three-fold. First you have to have the right silhouette to make the look flattering. The Fashionista’s tucked-in blouse is key to show her shape with the wide-leg pants. Crop tops are really big for the spring and they look great with the also popular high-rise pleated skirt. On the other hand, pairing them with a mini skirt or short shorts could lead to a crime of over-exposure. Secondly, when working with prints in accessories and clothes look to use complimentary colors to keep everything within the same family. Go back to elementary school and pull out your color wheel as a tool for guidance. You can work a blue top and orange bag or a yellow dress with a purple necklace to avoid a rough clashing situation. Lastly, and most important, have confidence. Because in the end, no matter what you are wearing, as long as you are owning it no one will dare question it!
