LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: The Politics of Fashion

Let's Hear it for the Boys

During this past week’s elections, I noticed many representations of American Pride. I was amazed to see the amount of students with American flag printed clothing and/or presidential candidate shirts. Everyone around campus made sure to have their nation’s pride represented through his or her clothing.

This Fashionisto caught my attention because his American pride was executed subtly. His Tommy Hilfiger crewneck with the small logo was a nice subtle way to incorporate our American colors. What’s more American than Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren? His jeans also allow for a simpler palette while still keeping the American theme. Finally, his shoes (the Air Jordan VII) add the perfect color combination to this American themed ensemble.

Hint: Want a festive outfit for any national holiday, but don't want to look too extravagant? Try wearing solid colors with one patterned piece or accessory. For example, if you are more of a statement shoe wearer, solid tops and bottoms with printed shoes could give your outfit an awesome yet simple statement. Solid colors make your outfit easy to navigate the different realms of the college setting. You could go from class, to the dining hall, to the election party and finish the night off with the election after party all in the same outfit! Add a watch and some jewelry for the final touches to your outfit. Don't forget your style is a representation of your identity! Fashion is political—make a statement!
