STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pop Art Into Your Wardrobe

Uncategorized

One of the latest pop culture fads is contemporary art. Whether it is graffiti, street art, or something else of that nature, contemporary art seems to be the new way for ordinary people to express themselves. Last week, I watched the long awaited Exit Through the Gift Shop, a documentary about infamous street artist Banksy and the story of how Thierry Guetta, an obsessive filmmaker, transformed into the well-known street artist Mr. Brainwash. It was inspiring to see how passionate the well-known street artists were about their work and the way that they "recycle" art from previous generations. This reminded me of fashion in that most contemporary fashions are in some way or another recycled versions of trends from the past.

With this documentary on my mind, I was clearly impressed by this Fashionista's take on pop art self-expression. I am a strong believer that the way people dress tells a lot about their personality and her clothing gave off a fun, artistic feel. Her black and white Andy Warhol bag nicely contrasted with the pop of color given off by her primary colored winter accessories. The contrast of the colors alone gave off a pop art feel. Not to mention that Andy Warhol's name is practically synonymous with contemporary art. I couldn't find a site that had a lot of the bags together, but after looking on Ebay, there are definitely many cool options out there. My favorite find being the Andy Warhol Guns Large messanger bag. Her Parisian style red hat can be found at Top Shop whereas her scarf may be harder to find because it is from Humana, a Salvation Army-esque store in Germany. Another option for an innovative acessory is the blue silk stripe scarf from Top Shop. This scarf color combination is sure to stick out with any outfit. This week, try incorporating contrasting colors and artistic pieces into your wardrobe.
