STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Look Chic and Show Your Pride

Style Advice of the Week

This past weekend was our first home football game at East Carolina University. Not only do I look forward to the intensity of the game and the outrageous tailgates, but I also get super excited to see the outfits everyone will be sporting. It has been a common trend to rock t-shirts and jerseys at football games, but some Fashionistas take team pride to another level – donning the cutest purple dress with the brightest yellow or gold jewelry.

There are so many variations and combination of colors to coordinate with your school, and I love every one of them. This trend can be applied to any school as too! There are so many ways to pull off the school pride look, aside from the typical t-shirt you recieved at orientation. Here at East Carolina University, multiple boutiques block off entire sections of their stores for strictly purple and gold attire. Anything from dresses, purple skirts, yellow tops and even the occasional romper can be found in East Carolina colors.

This week's Fashionista caught my eye with her adorable necklace. Her look was subtle, yet completely hit the nail on the head when it came to sporting ECU colors. Keeping her shorts a neutral black and pairing them with her purple tube top and that gorgeous yellow necklace gave her the ideal East Carolina spirit-style. These colors were all over Greenville, but this Fashionista had the only outfit that meshed school spirt with street style on.

One of the best benefits of game day is that even though all the same colors are everywhere, every single look is different. It is a great oppertunity to show off your style and pride.

Start growing your own school pride wardrobe one piece at a time. When you are out shopping and you see an item that is one of your school's colors, pick it up. Then dress it up with garments you already own and see how many outfits you can come up with to represent the school you love so much. Whether it is a belt, earrings or even a headband, the simplest accessory can pull an outfit together in all the colors you choose to represent.

For all the eager Pirate Fashionistas out there, here are a few purple and gold options to keep an eye out for. This dress from Roxy is the perfect light-weight piece to wear for the beginning games of the season when the weather is still warm. Pair it with some cowgirl boots and you will be ready to lead the stadium chants. This light purple romper from Billabong would also be a great game day option.

Switch up the shades of your school colors for even more game day options. Trust me, Fashionistas, it is worth the risk! This pencil skirt from J.Crew is the definition of Pirate game day attire. It comes in this beautiful yellow, but purple as well! You could wear this yellow skirt with a purple or white shirt. If you choose to wear it with white, then you also have the option of sporting some adorable purple jewelry like this mineral pendant from Urban Outfitters. With all the options available to represent your school, go out and get your pride on – knowing just how absolutely stunning you look doing it.
