CollegeFashionista X Macy’s: mstylelab at Vanderbilt University

Exclusive Feature

An average day on campus involves class, meetings, volunteering, club events and socializing. There’s hardly time to fit everything in, not to mention the need to look put together the whole time. A combination of classic staples and trendy statement pieces is how I get through the hectic days. With staples, you will always have the basics you need to create looks. Plus, on days when I’m running late, I can rely on them to be comfortable and chic. The on-trend glamour pieces, however, add an extra level of sophistication and excitement to your everyday wardrobe. Luckily for Fashionistos and Fashionistas, Macy’s mstylelab provides basics and statement pieces in abundance, and putting together a look is as easy as making it to class on time (probably easier).

My first outfit is one I would wear to a project presentation or job interview. The Material Girl Textured Pencil Skirt is a staple that will live in my closet for the next few years. Pencil skirts provide a fabulous structured shape that you can then dress up or down, depending on your mood. I chose to dress it down with a QMack Plaid Blouse. This blouse is great for the holiday season, the red and blue plaid print are so festive! I defined my waist by tying the blouse in a knot right above the skirt, giving both the top and skirt a balanced shape.

Comfortable sweaters are abundant in my wardrobe and especially useful during the colder months. This black QMack Relaxed Sweater has a boxy shape that allows for layering or balancing out slimmer skirts and pants. I chose a QMack Floral-Print Skirt to complete my look. The bright blues, reds and oranges of the skirt brighten my winter wardrobe, while the black background keeps it seasonally appropriate. By starting with a basic sweater and picking a trendy skirt to go with it, I was following my formula and was able to put this look together in no time at all!

My last ensemble is perfect for class or lunch with friends. My American Rag Three-Quarter-Sleeve Printed Dress has a hippy, bohemian vibe that I love. The print is eye-catching, but the muted orange and blue tones keep the dress from being over-the-top. The billowy shape and sleeves are light enough for the fall and spring, making this dress a perfect transition piece. Plus, it has pockets, which is so handy for my phone and loose change!

Though we are all busy college students with hardly enough time to think about our fashion choices, Macy’s mstylelab takes the outfit planning and stressing out of the equation. With the abundance of options, choosing staple and statement pieces to add to your wardrobe is easy, and provides a great study break! Stick with the formula of one basic and one on-trend piece to create stylish looks in no time at all. Macy’s mstylelab will be your go-to study break website.  Just don’t let your professors know.
