CollegeFashionista X Macy’s: mstylelab at The University of Pittsburgh

Exclusive Feature

I have to admit that at the start of my search within the Macy’s mystylelab department I felt a bit overwhelmed. There were so many different pieces in so many different shades I hardly knew where to begin. Because of my habit of being overly dressed, my feet lead me straight toward an area filled with brightly colored blazers. Combing through the racks, I quickly came up with an effective strategy for completing my assignment. I would style three looks each designed to portray a specific role that women fulfill in their daily lives. Slowly but surely with the help of Macy’s mystylelab I was able to add three stylish outfits to my wardrobe, one comfortable chic, one date night approved and one business casual.

Finding a pair of pants that are both comfortable and cute is like opening a present and finding exactly what you asked for inside. When I spotted these leggings by Bar III, I instantly loved the color -blocked knees and athletic stripes down the sides. After a little more browsing, I came across this grey Kensie motorcycle vest. Together the pair seamlessly blended this seasons two hottest trends- leather accents and athletic gear. The best part about this look is the versatility of each piece. Each item can be dressed up or down and paired with almost anything.

This second look is perfect for any special occasion. Whether you’re out with friends or meeting a date, the pattern on this Bar III dress is sure to turn a few heads. I instantly fell in love with the eye-catching contrast between the vintage pattern and the bold stripe down the center of the dress. The oxblood opaque tights underneath add an element of drama to the look.  Oxblood accessories are must have items this winter because of the intensity they bring to your outfit. I finished the look off with a pair of high socks and combat boots to keep things casual.

My last look is the direct result of an unfortunate addiction to black clothing. No matter how hard I try to purchase items with color, I always find myself with more and more black. Luckily Macy’s mystylelab had a ton of adorable all black options. These Jessica Simpson polka-dot pants are not only perfect to wear to work, but their velvet material is right on trend. With a pair of killer stilettos, you’ll be the most stylish girl at the office. The Bar III neon yellow blazer adds a pop of color to the outfit. It would also look great over your favorite little black dress. Finally, I completed the look with a statement necklace.

My best advice for styling clothing coincides with the motto I like to live my life by. “You can never be overdressed or undereducated”, said by Oscar Wilde. With Macy’s mystylelab, not only can you learn about the latest trends, but you can add them to your current wardrobe. I had a blast styling these three looks and cannot wait to go back to check out their newest arrivals.
