To me, the growing sea of brightly hued apparel and accessories on the streets signify the changing of the seasons. The dark palette of blacks, deep warm tones and generally neutral colors that are characteristic of fall and winter dressing begin to thaw as bolder hues rise to the surface of seasonal style. Thick knit scarves are swapped for lightweight pashminas while winter boots are replaced with peep toe wedges and ballet flats.
In New York, the case is even greater with the presence of fashion week and its fanfare of street style darlings, with the month of February ushering in the industry’s rising stars and veterans. It is not uncommon to see gaggles of editors, bloggers and showgoers dressed in loud prints and punchy hues to capture the attention of street style photographers, who can be seen in both the pits of the runway shows and chasing their fashionable prey outside various venues. So, with the atmosphere of fashion week very much in mind, I styled these shorts accordingly.
I am a generally neutral dresser, so I took a chance with being colorfully adventurous when I styled this outfit with the pink shorties from American Eagle Outfitters. Soft and incredibly comfortable, these low-rise cotton shorts are perfect for brightening up any dreary day while researching in school library. To amplify the effect of this summery piece, I donned a fitted red orange blazer and strapped flatforms but maintained a seasonal balance with a denim shirt and thick tights for warmth. When the temperatures do begin to warm up, make sure to take them out for a spin with some other fun pieces in your wardrobe!
Have trouble with colorblocking? Opt for a lower-keyed look by going for a clean ensemble of pieces such as this motorcycle jacket
, a classic chambray
, and a great pair of ankle boots.
Even though brighter garments resonate as traditionally spring or summer pieces in my mind, I love the occasional cobalt blue pocket blouse or fire engine red high-waisted shorts that stay in wardrobe season after season. Take a colorful plunge with American Eagle Outfitters and dress your best!
