CollegeFashionista X Aerie: Spring Break City Guide on LA

Exclusive Feature

The City of Angeles, La-La Land, Tinseltown, the Entertainment Capital of the World: Los Angeles, AKA the ideal city to spend your spring break. With beautiful beaches, the best weather and an endless array of places to explore, I am too lucky that I get to live here all year round. CollegeFashionista and Aerie have teamed up to make great guides for all your spring break destinations. Hopefully, my suggestions below will allow you to get to know and love Los Angeles, but watch out, once you get here you won’t want to leave. We have teamed up with Aerie to showcase the best looks for LA.

When packing for your trip, remember the basics. LA isn’t NYC. We love fashion, but don’t expect to see runway models walking next to you on the sidewalk. LA is about the effortlessly cool. Pair Aerie’s white Whisper T with their Juliet bikini and some Lacy Boxers. Curl your hair into some beachy waves, slip on your Aerie Flip-Flops and some Cat Eye shades and you’re good to go.

LA is the mecca of shopping. I love open-air malls like The Grove and Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade. You can also take a trip to Melrose Avenue for the most eclectic mix of vintage shops and luxury retailers ever. If you’re here on a Sunday, visit the Fairfax flea market for precious finds and celebrity sightings. On the opposite end of the fashion spectrum, Rodeo Drive has all the high-end brands you can imagine. Lastly, if you prefer a smaller town feel, check out the Pacific Palisades Village and Downtown Manhattan Beach for some quaint and unique boutiques.

As for the day, go to the beach! I’m biased towards low-key South Bay beaches like Manhattan or Hermosa, but Venice Beach is a fun must-see. If you have meet a new friend that’s a member of any of the beach clubs on PCH, like the Jonathan Beach Club or the Bel-Air Bay Club, get the invite for the day! If you go a little further up PCH, Malibu’s Paradise Cove is also a classic stop. Besides the beach, you can hike up to the Hollywood sign, or visit an amusement park like Disneyland or Six Flags. For a typical tourist destination in LA, go to Hollywood Boulevard and check out the stars inlaid on the sidewalk and Grauman’s Chinese Theater. If you’re into the rooftop bar scene, The Rooftop at the Standard Hotel in Downtown LA has stunning views and easily transitions from daytime hang out to nighttime dance party. Santa Monica’s The Bungalow, The Victorian, and ShoreBar are all worthwhile bars as well. If you love a good laugh, catch an improv show at the Groundlings.

Los Angeles has absolutely any type of food that you’re looking for, and the best of it. Are you a sushi addict? Wait until you try Sugarfish, by Sushi Nozawa. Order the Trust Me menu, and trust me, you’ll be dreaming about their Tuna Sashimi the second you leave. Just writing about it is making me hungry. I must also mention the juicing craze that LA has fallen prey to. My favorites are Pressed Juicery and Nektar. At Pressed, order Greens 3 or Roots 1, and at Nektar try The Cure or one of their incredible Acai bowls. Want to eat healthy? True Food Kitchen in Santa Monica has a tasty menu, featuring salads like the Tuscan Kale- a yummy kale salad with breadcrumbs and parmesan. Lastly, if you’re here on the first Friday of the month, make an outing from Venice’s “First Fridays”, when one of my favorite streets, Abbot Kinney, fills with every food truck you can imagine. Abbot Kinney itself has some wonderful restaurants as well, like Gjelina, Primitivo Wine Bistro, and Hal’s Bar and Grill.

Hopefully, this glimpse into what I do in LA can make your trip here feel like a locals’. Let the countdown begin!
