CLASS OF 2015: Trina

My time with CollegeFashionista is coming to an end and I could not be feeling more bittersweet! I will be graduating this May from Marist College with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and minors in Business and Product Development. Fashion was always central to every second of my education and experience at Marist. Once I stepped on campus I lived and breathed fashion, constantly researching trends and delving into fashion’s history. It was also an amazing period of discovery, of myself and especially my personal style, which is happily eclectic and perpetually changing now.

From the time I started at Marist, CollegeFashionista was a presence and an aspiration. As a freshman, I remember being excited at the prospect of being featured when I was spotted by a fellow classmate. Then, after a couple years of following the site and reading constantly, I decided to go out on a limb and pursue writing for CollegeFashionista. I’m so happy I did. Not only was it an incredible experience in developing my personal point of view and style, but it also helped me realize my dreams within the fashion industry. Though I had done a few internships prior to my first semester with CollegeFashionista, this was the first where I could feel my passion for what I was doing growing every week. The internship really pushed me into realizing that editorial and marketing were areas that I could flourish and bring my unique perspective to.

I took a semester off from working with CollegeFashionista, but found myself missing it and did everything I could to return. I was also given the opportunity to participate in the marketing internship with the New York City team twice a week. To say it was a semester full of CollegeFashionista would be a bit of an understatement, but I wouldn’t have had my last semester any other way. It was the most incredibly learning experience and I loved every second. I was invigorated every week through participating and it has given me an extra kick of motivation and drive as I step into my next chapter.

Currently, my plans past graduation are up in the air, but I’m looking forward to pursuing a career within the fashion industry. I’d love nothing more than to find myself working at a publication, media company or firm that creates amazing content and has its finger on the pulse of the industry in the same way that CollegeFashionista does. After all of my time here, I truly can’t wait to get out into the industry and find the place where I fit.

I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to find my voice at CollegeFashionista and am so excited to take everything I’ve learned here with me as I take my next steps.
