CLASS OF 2014: Lauren “LO”

Exclusive Feature

As I crossed the stage a few weeks ago a million thoughts ran through my mind. Where do I go, what will I do, how will I do it? And then I reminded myself that my time spent at Western is what prepared me for this moment. All the late nights typing papers and Googling answers because I swore they just weren’t in the text. Or over booking myself so I could make it to a sorority social, SGA or Rec Council event and still manage to make it to my Resident Assistant mandatory desk shift. Just to wake up and do it all over again the next day and question myself at times, how do I do it?  As Chair of Graduating Affairs for my student government I was able to step outside the box and plan our universities first senior weekend, and although there were times when I was working on things when I should have been sleeping, the result was worth the commitment. I learned in college that if you set a goal and surround yourself with good people, then there’s no way you won’t achieve it.

Although it has only been a semester writing for CollegeFashionista, I am so glad I had the opportunity to write for them. Through this experience I learned a lot about fashion and writing styles along with how to take quality photos on my camera. I have always had a love for writing and fashion of course but never knew what to actually do with it.  Receiving my degree in Communication leaves the door wide open for opportunity in what I can do with my degree, and I plan to do just that. Writing for CollegeFashionista was one of the highlights of my spring semester, I looked forward to my posts coming out each week and getting feedback from total strangers about my work who just enjoyed reading my posts. Although my time with CollegeFashionista was short, it was sweet for certain.

As for the future, I am not completely certain what my next journey will be. I hope to move to a city like New York or Boston perhaps.  I have a passion for fashion, cosmetics and writing so I would love to be able to do something involving all three, while maybe even planning events. For now I plan to enjoy summer with family and friends, lay out at the beach and attend country concerts. Again, if it wasn’t for Western and my involvement there I wouldn’t feel as confident as I do about taking on this thing called the “real world”. The people I met the amazing friends that I made and the support I received helped make me who I am today. The first thing I told myself when I got to campus was that I would get involved, well I certainly did.
