STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Military Girl

Uncategorized

Military inspired pieces have become very on trend since designers like Fendi and Burberry paid homage to military in their fall 2010 collections. This look seems to have stood the test of fashion time and made its way into practically every clothing store. 2011 military is less in your face than, say, 1999 military (think camo sweatshirts). Look for styles with brass buttons, cargo pockets and masculine lines.

This Fashionista is wearing a simple long sleeved shift dress, like this Club Monaco Courtney dress, paired with an oversized army-green vest, very similar to this Wilfred Free Champlain sleeveless jacket. She finished the look with Ray-Ban Aviators and a pair of white Converse. This look works because she’s using one military piece in a subtle way. If you look like an extra for Apocalypse Now, rethink your outfit.

Some of my favourite military pieces include these J Brand Houlihan skinny cargo pants in Vintage Olive, and this Burberry Brit Twill Wool Coat.
