STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Bright Bags

Uncategorized

Maybe it’s my mom’s New York City genes coming through, but I live for neutrals – black being my favourite in the winter, and white in the summer. It’s not that I dislike colour, I just find neutrals to be more flattering and timeless. However, I completely envy and admire girls that can pull off vibrant fluorescents. For me, bright accessories are my way of not completely looking like I’m going to a funeral.

This Fashionista has paired a black distressed leather jacket over a grey Gypsy 05 dress, and some cat-eye sunglasses from Elizabeth and James, with an amazing hard-sided bright blue purse. By adding a pop of colour to an otherwise neutral outfit, she’s created an adorable look.

Bright bags have been showing up on several celebrities this season – from Ashlee Simpson to Jennifer Hudson – as well as in stores all over the place. Although this Fashionista picked up her bag at a vintage store in Miami, there are still plenty of brand new bright purses to be purchased. Shopbop has an entire section devoted to this trend. However, if your student budget can’t afford a DSquared bag, Banana Republic offers a lovely selection of colourful purses as well.

Sporting any bright accessory is a great way to say, “I’m not actually a dull person,” whether it’s a jewel toned headband, or some colourful Converse, it’s difficult to go wrong with this trend. Today I opted for a neon pink scrunchie from American Apparel while lying by the pool (scrunchies are back – I swear).
