The sun won’t be hiding from us much longer; the skies this winter are getting brighter as days go by. Although it’s safe to say that spring may be coming sooner than we think, for now, let’s figure out more stylish tips on how to stay bundled up while it’s still chilly.
There seems to be a trend going around this season: layering. No one wants to step outside in a plain old hooded sweatshirt and call it a day anymore. People take their time to place different colors, patterns and material together to stay warm and showcase their personal style.
This Fashionisto was patiently waiting to get on a Rutgers bus when I approached him about his look for the day. He wore a nice plaid button-up shirt. It added a breath of fresh air, with its vibrant colors, to his more neutral outfit. He layered his plaid button-up shirt with a gray cardigan.
He wore a pair of khaki-colored jeans, rather than wear a pair of dark washed jeans, to continue the neutral color scheme. The addition of his peacoat tied the whole ensemble together, portraying a more professional look. This Fashionisto’s pair of pants and pea coat worked perfectly with his pair of Polo Ralph Lauren boots.
One of the best things about winter, besides the wide selection of clothes, is the shoe selection. Winter boots are versatile footwear, as to what style they bring to an everyday outfit. These specific Polo Ralph Lauren boots helped this Fashionisto uphold a casual look. If he had replaced the boots with a pair of sneakers, then he would have portrayed a sportswear vibe. However, that was not the look this Fashionisto wanted to display.
Hint: The easiest way to recreate this Fashionisto’s look is to pick out individual articles of clothing and layer them together. Instead of wearing a button-up shirt and cardigan, try layering a graphic T-shirt with a zip-up hoodie or jacket. Crewneck sweatshirts are also easy layering pieces, if you wear a collared long sleeve shirt underneath! As for footwear, any type of boot–long or short–will suffice for this look. Remember: the best way to achieve any desired look is to think outside of the box. Thinking outside the box allows you to save some money and still show off your personal sense of style.
