STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Subdued School Spirit

Style Advice of the Week

One of the best, arguable the best, things about going to the University of Florida is the utter obsession with all things gator related. Specifically, royal blue and bright orange apparel. Don’t get me wrong; I love my “SWAMP CHOMP” workout tees and “LSU IS GATORBAIT” high socks as much as the next girl, but I just don’t always feel like I need to literally express my thoughts through my clothes. This Fashionista perfectly demonstrates my preferred subtle approach to school spirit.

I love a bright orange every now and again, but for a more day-to-day look, I prefer orange’s slightly less outrageous relative: coral. I love how this Fashionista placed coral throughout her outfit, tying the different pieces together. I am a shoe girl, so I first noticed her suede flats. I may or may not compulsively buy J.Crew suede ballet flats, and I may or may not have just found a new color to add to my collection. Try these daisy chain flats for a super girly spin.

Today’s Fashionista continued the coral by wearing paisley print gator blue shorts, outlined with a similar shade of coral. She mimicked the super girly paisley print with a white peplum top. I thought I retired my denim jacket back in middle school, but this Fashionista brought it back full force; it is the perfect layer for chilly Florida mornings. This Fashionista finished it off with a chunky coral necklace complete with gold hardware.

So on those mornings that you are feeling incredibly school spirited — let’s be honest, who doesn’t dream about the gators every night? — try incorporating your school colors in a more subdued, fashion-forward way. Chomp chomp!
