STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Perfectly Proportionate

Style Advice of the Week

“Fashion is architecture,” Coco Chanel once said. “It is a matter of proportions.” Proportions, however, are often misunderstood. When clothing is proportioned incorrectly, it can lead down a windy, windy path to destruction. Sometimes, it can be easy to recognize — a long shirt that hides short shorts, creating an illusionary pantless outfit, a short skirt that rides up just a little too bit. Proportions can also be done the right way. They are especially helpful in aiding feminist friendly Fashionistas’ ultimate embracement of womanism: showing some skin.

Showing too much skin for class is never, ever a good thing. Today’s Fashionista highlights how showing just a pop of skin can make a casual class outfit refreshing. This blouse shows a peep of skin at the shoulders, making a safe blouse a little edgy. The eggshell blue color is perfect for a spring color palette. Cover up the cutouts for a more professional setting with a cool tuxedo blazer in a contrasting animal print or bold red.

This Fashionista showed off her shoulders, so her skinny black jeans are complementary. Pairing the blouse with a skirt might have been a little much for during the day. To transition this look into nighttime seamlessly, pair the top with black wax coated skinny jeans or a glittery pencil skirt. Add a pair of strappy heels and you’re good to go!

True Fashionistas never hold back. Like today’s Fashionista illustrates, showing off a little skin does not need to be reserved for the nighttime. This week, reveal just a little shoulder or wear a top with backside cut-outs and build off that. Fashion is architecture, after all.
