Stand out this season with bright colours and animal prints. To avoid going too overboard with the zebra, tiger or leopard designs, try to stick with one and build your outfit around it. Sometimes mixing different pieces with animal prints can be difficult, but when you find the right match, they can work really well together. I spotted this Fashionisto on campus rocking leopard-print pants, paired with a top that also features a leopard pattern. I like how he keeps everything else in his outfit black, highlighting his great animal print combo.
Name: Jonathan Jackson
Major: Finance
Year: Junior
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?
Jonathan Jackson: Preppy with a little bit of hipster. Laid-back with a mix of vintage, new and basic pieces.
CF: What are some of your wardrobe staples?
JJ: Black boots, Chuck Taylor’s, plaid long-sleeved shirts and skinny dark denim.
CF: Where do you get your fashion inspiration?
JJ: Friends and city-living, in general. Being in the heart of the city, it’s hard not to get inspired to come into one’s own style. My inspiration is on the sidewalks, in vintage stores on Queen Street West and Instagram.
CF: Whose closets would you love to raid and why?
JJ: Ryan Gosling and Justin Bobby. On a casual day, both their styles emit a laid-back look with a sophisticated twist.
CF: If money weren’t an issue, what one item would you love to splurge on?
JJ: I saw a guy wearing these Christian Louboutin shoes, paired with black straight-leg pants with a cougar stripe down the side at Topshop at the Bay on Queen Street. These eye-catchers were stuck in my mind all day.
How To: Start off with a pair of coloured, animal-print pants and find a shirt that goes well with that specific colour or animal print design. Then, add a black coat and a pair of black combat boots. Finish off with a black messenger bag and you’re good to go!
