Los Angeles was teased with a week of clouds, rain and wind, but to my dismay, the clouds have cleared and the sun is out again. This reminds us Californians that it's never okay to be without our favorite and most utilized accessory: sunglasses. Even on days when it appears overcast, it's a good idea to keep them on you. More often than not you'll be pulling them out at some point during the day. However, with everyone wearing sunglasses, it's hard to make a statement with them and that's exactly why I needed to feature this week's Fashionista.
Sunglasses have their staples like wayfarers and aviators, but a personal favorite are these Ray-Ban Clubmaster glasses. Aside from their old school look, what's so cool about these glasses is the pattern on the top. A pattern that matches well with the overall look. This paisley patterned, sheer button-up blouse is yet another vintage-inspired look. Tucking it into a tonally similar skirt and throwing an over the shoulder bag on makes for a chic and comfortable classroom ensemble. And isn’t that what every Fashionista is looking for?
Some people make the mistake of thinking that sunglasses are a one-style-fits-all kind of accessory but this isn't always the case. This Fashionista's sunglasses, for example, go much better with a vintage look or a boho chic vibe than they would with a motorcycle jacket that would be more suited to aviators. I recommend keeping a variety of styles for different outfits. As previously mentioned, nobody should be without a pair of classic Wayfarers. These Urban Outfitters cat-eye pair and red lipstick would make a fun old glamour look. And finally, a popular trend are round glasses, vaguely reminiscent of Harry Potter but with more style.
In California, sunglasses are the one accessory that's always in style, always in use, all year long. Your outfit won't be complete without a pair, so pick any of these styles and you'll be the owner of enviable eyewear!
Spotted: Patterned sunglasses were seen on the Prada runway for spring/summer 2012.
