The first moments of Spring semester always sees remnants of New Year’s resolutions from a few weeks back. Whether it be a new hair style, more hours at the gym, or better grades, we are all reevaluating our image and what we want to accomplish with this new persona. I spotted this Fashionista with the perfect attitude to welcome the New Year. Her tailored pieces create that clean look ideal for job interviews that would surely land you your dream summer internship.
It all starts with a good coat. Our Fashionista sports the classic three-button pea coat with wide lapels in a crisp black. Check out this one from L.L.Bean. Pairing this with a black scarf and black chinos creates a sense of self-possession and confidence that can only add points to your gleaming resumé. The trousers are cuffed to reveal a derby shoe in burgundy that breaks the monotony of the black pieces. The slightly square, slightly pointed toe hints at dandyism without being too ostentatious for serious interview dialogue. Cole Haan’s wingtip oxford accomplishes a similar look. Our Fashionista allows herself some playfulness with the patent leather of the derby shoe, as well as with her socks peeking out with a winter pattern. And the crisp professionalism continues even when the clean-cut pea coat is shed indoors. Her light gray blazer adds an extra layer of warmth and also introduces another hue while keeping the ensemble slick and sober.
The theme for this interview outfit is based on clean lines based on black that would be quick and easy to pick out of your closet, ready to impress any potential employer.
One Simple Change: Trade the derby shoe for a more casual canvas plimsoll for a more dressed-down look that would be perfect for a meeting with a professor.
