Red is a bold color that is hard to pull off in large quantities. I stopped this week’s Fashionisto before he had put his sweater over his fire engine red button-down, which made me notice him from almost a block away. He shows us a great way to add a statement color to your outfit without it being too overpowering.
When wearing a color as bright as this, it is best to pair it with all neutrals. This Fashionisto paired his shirt with khakis, a beige sweater and chocolate Clarks. I would recommend staying with this color palette; whites or blacks will be an overkill and appear much dressier than this.
If the energetic color is a little too much for you, do as he did and layer it with a sweater. I feel like guys often look past layering as a way to dress well rather than just keep warm. Instead of throwing on your typical Badgers hoodie, invest in a wool pullover in a color you wear frequently. If you do want to opt for the full out red look, I would suggest finding a sweater or something that will keep you warm.
Hint: Red pants are also big this season and will be an item that can transition into spring.
