Stripes and polka-dots are two of those patterns that never go out of style. They’re simple, sophisticated and the perfect pick-me-up for a day when you’re not feeling too glam. Two of the Fashionistas I photographed previously rocked big bold polka-dots and micro polka-dots, so it’s time I pay tribute to all the stripes in our lives. Stripes have been seen all over the runway and are sure to be trending for the Spring. Stripes were front and center in collections by Vivienne Westwood, Marc Jacobs and Dolce & Gabbana. Stripes were seen in every fashion — minimal, eccentric and monochromatic.
This week’s Fashionista styled a blue and white blouse buttoned to the top with dark skinny jeans and a flannel-lined coat (love the pattern mix!). Vertical stripes are a current favorite of mine; the stripes elongate my petite figure, which is never a bad thing. I love this bodycon dress from Motel, and would style it with bold lips, strappy black heels and a faux fur coat. The simplest way to style stripes is pairing one piece and leaving the rest of your look simple—a striped tank top with black high-waisted trousers and stilettos, a striped dress with minimal accessories or striped pants with a solid top are all ways to style stripes. That being said, don’t stray from mixing stripes with other patterns as well! Refer to the article I previously wrote on pattern mixing and get creative! One of my favorite striped items right now is this vertical striped dress; it would look so chic with minimal heels, a blazer and a ballerina bun. And, of course, some pouty red lips!
