There’s something about the immaculateness of black and white that appeals to my daydreams of the perfect home: a sleek, white walled apartment in the city, open air and natural light, a simple silver clothes rack adorned with my favorite black pieces and a walk-in shoe closet (a girl can dream, right?). Light and dark, positive and negative space, ying and yang—black and white are pure, classic and the pinnacle of contrast. Black and white are consistently seen on the runway and are always being reinvented with interesting prints, hem lines and fabrics.
This week’s Fashionista was seen in a black and white micro polka-dot dress paired with a black blazer and black tights. She completed her look with a black bowlers hat and black oxfords. Keeping her accessories and jacket black really make her dress pop and become the focal point of her outfit. My favorite way to pull together a black and white outfit is with bright lips—a deep red is perfect for fall and adds instant sophistication to your look. Another great way to style a black and white outfit is with hints of gold jewelry. For a day-time look, pair this white dotted crop top with a high-waisted pleated skirt. For cooler days add on black tights and a faux leather crop jacket. Black and white are a no-brainer for nighttime looks–I’m in love with the details of this dress from Free People; it’d look great with black platforms, beach waves, and a deep, red matte lipstick. Maybe everything is better in black and white.
